Left sided defender, Danny Seaborne, was the first arrival at The Valley on Friday morning but there were two further moves, another arrival and a departure.

John Sullivan moved to Colchester on an initial one month loan. The keeper has not featured since he played in the penultimate game of last season at Preston.

Sullivan is now 24 and needs to be playing games. The arrival of David Button has seen the former Millwall keeper slip down the pecking order at The Valley.

The third move of the day saw Wolves’ Icelandic international, Eggert Jonsson, complete a move to Charlton for a month. A defensive midfielder, Jonsson played 153 games for Hearts before switching to Molineux. He can also operate on the right and centre of defence and will fill the void left by Abdul Razak’s early return to Manchester City.

Here’s what Chris Powell had to say about his new recruits:

“It’s been tough (the injuries) but I don’t want people seeing it as an excuse. We have suffered with injury and illness and you have to overcome that. We had 16 fit senior players on Tuesday and put two youngsters on the bench.

“Of course you want players that are used to playing at first team level and are used to playing in the Championship and I’ve bought in two players, Dan Seaborne and Eggert Jonsson, who are just that.

“Dan can play left back and left centre-half will come in for a month and just bolster our numbers defensively and also on the left side, so he comes with decent pedigree from Southampton and I look forward to working with him.

“Rhoys Wiggins has been out for a number of weeks and we lost Cedric Evina last week in training after he came in for a couple of games. So we’ve been short on the left side and those guys are going to be out for a number of weeks.

“We just needed to get a natural left-sider in. Chris Solly, as he always does, did a marvellous job for us the other night but I’ve always felt we just want that balance in the team.

“I had to play Michael Morrison at right-back the other day, but I just thought I can’t leave ourselves thin in those areas so Dan comes into the squad and we welcome him.

“He’s obviously played down in the lower reaches and League One and the Championship with Southampton.  He’s got good quality and has played at a decent standard.

“I saw him earlier in the season when I went to watch Stevenage against Southampton. He was good on the evening and has always been in my mind and I’ve been lucky that the club have backed me to do the deal.

“It’s good for him to come in, especially on the back of a pulsating game the other day. We are happy with our last result and he comes into the mix now with the games coming up and trained with us today, which was good,” said Powell.
The manager went on to add this assessment of Jonsson:

“I just felt I needed to boost the midfield area, he (Jonsson) will come in and be amongst the squad and is energetic and keeps things simple.

“Both Dan and Eggert boost the numbers, with regards to the loan window that shuts in just over a couple of weeks. After that you go into Christmas period when you won’t be able to boost your numbers.

“Like any other manager you want to have a squad that has experience in numbers. Looking at our injury list those lads that are working their way back to fitness will come into the reckoning at the end of this month, and that will be a further boost.

“Then it’s up to me to choose a starting eleven and a matchday eighteen that will really do ourselves justice,” concluded Chris.

All three players are in line to make debuts for their new clubs over the weekend.
